A simple rent receipt says this:

Tips
- The landlord has to sign the receipt. A receipt without a signature is just a printout.
- Keep one receipt for every month, even when you pay by bank transfer. Your statement is a second record.
- If you claim HRA, give your employer the receipts, and the landlord’s PAN if the yearly rent is above ₹1 lakh.
- Have a written rent agreement as well. It says what the rent is, so each receipt matches it. You can make a Bangalore rent agreement here, and work out its stamp duty.
Rent receipt questions
What should a rent receipt include?
The date, the tenant’s name, the landlord’s name, the property address, the amount received in figures and in words, the month the rent is for, how it was paid, and the landlord’s signature. If the landlord’s PAN is needed, add that too.
Do I need rent receipts to claim HRA?
Employers usually ask for rent receipts as proof when you claim house rent allowance. Many also ask for the landlord’s PAN when the yearly rent is above ₹1 lakh. Check what your employer wants.
Does a rent receipt need a revenue stamp?
Practice varies. Some landlords stick a revenue stamp on receipts above a certain amount and sign across it. You can tick the option to add a blank box for one on the receipt. If you are unsure, ask your employer or a chartered accountant.
Can a tenant make the rent receipt?
Yes. A tenant can fill in the details and print it, but the landlord has to sign it for it to count as a receipt.
Can I make receipts for several months at once?
Yes. Choose the first month and how many months you want, up to 12, and you get one receipt for each month, three to a page.
Is my information stored anywhere?
No. The receipt is made in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to our server or saved.
How do I save it as a PDF?
Click Print, then choose “Save as PDF” as the printer. The page is set up for A4.
